Houses for sale in Central Bali

Ask where Central Bali begins and you will get a different answer in every village. It is rice terraces, river valleys and the roads that thread between them — inland country where agriculture is still what most of the land does. Property comes in both shapes: ordinary houses in working villages, and villas built for the view rather than the location.

Who looks here

Buyers who have priced the coast and decided the view is better inland. Also people who want more land than a south-coast plot allows, and are comfortable driving to get to a beach. Because the area is drawn broadly, two properties listed under the same heading can be forty minutes apart — read the map before the photographs.

The trade-off

Everything is a drive. There is no walkable strip, the airport run is long enough to plan around, and grocery shopping is a trip rather than an errand. River valleys look their best in photographs taken in the dry months; in the wet season the same slopes shed water, and how a plot drains is the question worth asking first. In exchange, what is around you is much less likely to change.
